the book presents the newest paintings from the artist whose artworks have been recently on exhibition at the nosbaum & reding art contemporain, luxembourg jan stieding's painting demand intense, prolonged viewing. this is because the blurred edges in his paintings cause the eye to continually adjust its focus. the 'blurred' rendering in his work, however, is not based on a lack of focus as familiar from photography, but originates in his genuinely pictorial approach in appropriating the outer world by means of interiorised images. raimund stecker |
